Abhijit Majumdar, the celebrated Odia singer and music composer widely known as the “Melody King” of Ollywood, passed away today at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
He was 54 years old.
The news has sent shockwaves through Odisha’s cultural community, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, artists, and fans alike.
Prolonged Battle With Illness Ends In Tragedy
Majumdar had been fighting serious health complications since September 2025, when he was first admitted in critical condition due to low sodium levels and underlying issues, including chronic liver disease, hypertension, and hypothyroidism.
His condition worsened over the months, leading to a transfer to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced care.
Hospital authorities confirmed he suffered a cardiac arrest early this morning, followed by refractory septic shock.
Despite intensive resuscitation efforts, he was declared dead at 9:02 am.
His wife, Ranjita, remained by his side throughout the ordeal.
The couple has a son.

Born on September 11, 1971, in Odisha, Majumdar began his journey in 1991 in the Sambalpuri music scene before becoming a cornerstone of Ollywood.
Over three decades, he composed more than 700 songs across films, albums, devotional bhajans, and independent projects – a remarkable output that blended traditional Odia melodies with contemporary appeal.
