Social media users are circulating a video claiming that people stormed Randeep Singh Surjewala’s office in Haryana after he made remarks regarding Muslim leaders in connection with a ticket dispute.
However, fact-checks by multiple news organisations confirm that no such incident has occurred in Haryana.
The footage in question actually depicts protests in Davangere city, Karnataka, following the Congress party’s decision to award the party ticket for the Davangere South Assembly bypoll to Samarth Mallikarjun.
Ticket Row In Davangere
On March 22, the Congress announced Samarth Mallikarjun, son of Karnataka Minister S.S. Mallikarjun and grandson of the late senior leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa, as its candidate for the bypoll to be held on April 9, 2026.
The decision triggered discontent among sections of the Muslim community, who had strongly demanded a candidate from their community.
Davangere South has a substantial Muslim voter population estimated between 60,000 and 85,000.
Local Muslim leaders and youth took to the streets holding black flags and raising slogans against AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Reports suggest that Surjewala’s reported comment, that the Congress does not depend on the votes of any single community and will not yield to pressure, added to the resentment.
Clarification On Viral Claim
Despite widespread sharing on Facebook and other platforms, there has been no protest, attack, vandalism, or demonstration at the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee office or any Congress facility in Haryana linked to this issue.
The controversy remains a local internal matter within the Karnataka unit of the Congress party and has shown no signs of spreading nationally or impacting Haryana.
Searches across major news outlets and social media platforms have found zero reports of any related unrest in Haryana.
District Congress leaders in Davangere have said efforts are underway to pacify dissatisfied community leaders ahead of the bypoll.
This appears to be a case of misinformation, where footage from the Karnataka protest is being shared with false captions linking it to Haryana.
