Tesla Begins Hiring in India After Musk-Modi Meeting

Tesla has officially begun hiring in India, marking a significant step toward its long-anticipated entry into the country’s electric vehicle (EV) market.

This follows a recent meeting between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Modi’s visit to the United States.

A LinkedIn job listing revealed that Tesla is recruiting for 13 roles in Mumbai and Delhi, including customer service, technical support, advisory positions, and delivery operations.

The hiring suggests the company is planning its Indian launch despite no official confirmation on vehicle sales.

Tesla’s reluctance to enter India previously stemmed from high import duties.

However, recent policy changes—including reducing customs duty on luxury EVs from 110% to 70%—have made the market more attractive.

While India’s EV sector remains small compared to China, government incentives and growing interest in clean energy offer a promising opportunity for expansion.

Industry experts speculate that Tesla may start with imports before considering local manufacturing, depending on demand and government support.

The hiring push comes amid broader US-India trade talks, reinforcing Tesla’s strategic global expansion.
