A senior Ayurvedic doctor from Mysuru passed away on Monday after enduring 12 years of ill health allegedly caused by a junior colleague with whom she was romantically involved.
The death has reopened scrutiny on Dr. Vinay Kumar S., who is now facing multiple allegations of cheating, blackmail and physical harassment involving at least three women.
According to family statements and police complaints, the case dates back to 2014 when Dr. Nagashree, a senior faculty member at a private Ayurvedic college in Mysuru, entered into a relationship with then-junior doctor Vinay Kumar.
When she reportedly hesitated due to the age difference, Vinay allegedly staged a suicide attempt in Srirangapatna by administering an overdose of sleeping pills and an injection, causing Dr. Nagashree to slip into a coma.
Though she later emerged from the coma, she remained bedridden and in poor health for over a decade.
She breathed her last on March 24, 2026.
While Dr. Nagashree was still recovering, Vinay Kumar is alleged to have begun a relationship with Gouthami Hiremath, a chartered accountant.
Gouthami’s family claims he used private chats and photographs to blackmail her, leading to severe mental trauma.
She died by suicide shortly afterwards. Her parents filed a case, but Vinay was acquitted due to insufficient evidence at the time.
In a third case, Vinay Kumar married Vinoda in late 2025.
According to her police complaint and interview with Asianet Suvarna News, harassment began within weeks of the wedding.
Vinoda has alleged repeated physical assault, threats with a revolver, demands to transfer family land, and statements such as “I have killed so many girls.”
She left the marital home within 15 days and filed a complaint.
She has also submitted a B-report in court seeking ₹17 lakh in compensation and has vowed to pursue justice to protect other women from similar ordeals.
“He used to beat me and threaten me, saying, ‘I have killed so many girls, what are you?’… He demanded that my parents transfer land in my name. When I resisted, he would assault me,” Vinoda told reporters.
Mysuru police have initiated a fresh investigation following Dr. Nagashree’s death. Dr. Vinay Kumar has not been arrested so far.
All allegations remain unproven in court, and he is entitled to a fair legal process.
The case has triggered widespread public outrage, with many questioning the conduct of a medical professional in a position of trust.
