ISRO’s National Expert Committee Reviews PSLV-C62 Third-Stage Anomaly

A national-level expert committee is investigating the third-stage failure of the PSLV-C62 mission that occurred in January 2026.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has formed a national-level expert committee to conduct a detailed review of the third-stage anomaly experienced during the PSLV-C62 mission in January 2026.

This is the second consecutive technical issue involving the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), widely regarded as ISRO’s most dependable “workhorse” rocket.

The committee’s mandate is to identify the root cause of the problem and recommend corrective actions to restore full operational reliability.

The ongoing review has led to a revised schedule for the rocket’s return to flight.

The next PSLV mission, which was originally planned for the coming weeks, is now expected to take place between June and July 2026, subject to the successful implementation of the committee’s recommendations.

The PSLV has been the backbone of India’s space programme for over three decades, having successfully placed more than 50 satellites into orbit for both domestic and international customers.

Any delay in its return to service is being closely monitored across the Indian space sector, as several upcoming missions rely on its proven capabilities.

ISRO is expected to share further updates once the expert committee submits its final report and the necessary modifications are validated through ground testing.
