A shocking Kerala college ragging video surfaces, showing brutal abuse. Parents demand justice as police arrest five students in Kottayam.

Brutal Kerala College Ragging Video Goes Viral, Five Arrested

A disturbing ragging video from the Government College of Nursing, Kottayam, surfaced on February 13, showing a student being stabbed with a divider, having dumbbells placed on his private parts, and lotion poured over his body. The horrific abuse had reportedly continued for three months before victims finally spoke out. Despite fear, parents are demanding action to end ragging in all colleges.

Victims Threatened, Parents Speak Out

One of the victims’ fathers, Lakshmana Perumal, revealed that his son—a first-year nursing student—and five friends endured extortion and violent ragging by their seniors. “They started by demanding small sums like ₹5 and ₹10, but later it escalated to ₹1,000,” he said. The students were too terrified to report the abuse, fearing expulsion or worse.

Following a police complaint on February 10, authorities arrested five accused seniorsSamuel Johnson (20), Jeeva NS (18), Rahul Raj (22), Vivek NV (21), and Rijil Jith (20). They have been suspended from college and expelled from the Kerala Government Nursing Student Association (KGNSA). Rahul Raj, a state secretary of KGNSA, has also been removed from the organization.

Legal Action & Investigation Underway

The accused face charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, including:

  • Section 118(1) – Voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon
  • Section 308(2) – Extortion
  • Section 351(1) – Criminal intimidation
  • Sections 3 & 4 – Prohibition and punishment for ragging

Authorities are investigating possible additional victims and examining lapses by the college administration. Health Minister Veena George has promised strict action, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has demanded a report from the state police chief.

As the case unfolds, the incident has reignited concerns over campus safety and the need for stricter anti-ragging enforcement across India.
