Ranveer Singh Reportedly Exits Don 3 After Dhurandhar's Success

Ranveer Singh has stepped away from Farhan Akhtar's highly anticipated Don 3, according to multiple industry sources.

Just days ago, on December 21-22, reports indicated that Ranveer had begun action preparations for Don 3, with shooting slated to commence in late January or early February 2026.

However, the narrative changed dramatically on December 23, with outlets like Pinkvilla, Times of India, India Today, Hindustan Times, and News18 reporting his exit.

Insiders attribute the move to Ranveer’s desire for creative diversification post-Dhurandhar’s phenomenal run.

The spy thriller is poised to cross ₹600 crore nett domestically soon, potentially reaching ₹700 crore lifetime, marking it as one of 2025’s biggest hits.

A source told Pinkvilla: “With Dhurandhar’s massive success, Ranveer is very clear about the kind of films he wants to do next. He does not want to be seen in back-to-back gangster films, especially since Dhurandhar has already established him strongly in that space.”

Some reports, including from mid-day, suggest additional factors like date conflicts with potential reshoots for a Dhurandhar sequel and a post-success remuneration adjustment that did not align with the project’s budget.

What Is Next For Ranveer?

The actor is reportedly prioritizing a zombie thriller tentatively titled Pralay, backed by Applause Entertainment and directed by Jai Mehta.

Described as an emotional human drama centered on a man’s fight to save his family amid chaos, Ranveer is actively pushing to advance its schedule.

He is also said to be eyeing collaborations with visionary directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee, signaling a strategic pivot toward varied genres.

Impact On Don 3

Produced by Excel Entertainment, Don 3 now faces recasting for the iconic lead role, previously played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Kriti Sanon remains attached as the female lead, having replaced Kiara Advani earlier.

The makers are scouting for a new actor to maintain the planned rollout, though the project has been indefinitely postponed from its February start.

No official statement has been released by Ranveer, Farhan Akhtar, or the production house, leaving room for potential changes.

Analysis

Ranveer’s decision reflects a growing trend among A-list stars: leveraging peak momentum for selective, high-impact projects rather than franchise commitments.

After mixed results in recent years, Dhurandhar’s success has reinstated his box-office pull, giving him leverage to avoid typecasting.

While fans may be disappointed, the 2023 announcement teaser generated massive hype.

This could allow Ranveer to explore fresh territories, much like his transformative roles in Gully Boy or Padmaavat.

As Bollywood wraps up 2025, all eyes are on who will don the mantle next and how Don 3 evolves.
