Mumbai, December 13, 2025: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is set to roar back with King, a massive action thriller directed by Siddharth Anand (Pathaan, War).

The film, which also marks the theatrical debut of his daughter Suhana Khan, has been creating immense excitement since its title and first look teaser dropped on SRK’s 60th birthday (November 2, 2025).

The gritty teaser featured Shah Rukh in a never-seen-before intense avatar, flipping a “King of Hearts” card amid smoke – instantly going viral and raising expectations for a raw, powerful performance.

Plot And Inspiration

King is loosely inspired by Luc Besson’s 1994 French classic Léon: The Professional, starring Jean Reno as a professional hitman who reluctantly mentors a young girl (Natalie Portman) seeking revenge after her family’s murder.

In this Bollywood reimagining:

  • SRK plays a deadly, vengeful assassin/mentor (a don-like anti-hero).
  • He trains a young female protégé (Suhana Khan) whose family has been killed.
  • The story unfolds across two timelines, packed with high-octane action, emotional depth, and Bollywood-style grandeur.

Notably, King avoids the original film’s controversial romantic undertones between the mentor and protégé.

The relationship is strictly professional and mentor-student – a deliberate choice to suit Indian audience sensibilities.

This is not the first time Bollywood has drawn from Léon.

The 2000 film Bichhoo, starring Bobby Deol and Rani Mukerji, was an official Hindi remake of Léon: The Professional, closely following the original plot, including the hitman-orphaned girl dynamic with revenge at its core.

In contrast, King takes only the basic mentor-protégé premise and builds an entirely new, larger-than-life story around it, making it more of a spiritual successor than a remake.

Star-Studded Cast

  • Shah Rukh Khan – The ruthless yet charismatic “King.”
  • Suhana Khan – His on-screen protégé (theatrical debut)
  • Abhishek Bachchan – The primary antagonist
  • Deepika Padukone – In a pivotal role
  • Supporting actors: Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Rani Mukerji, Abhay Verma, and others

The film boasts music by Anirudh Ravichander, with unconfirmed rumors of a track featuring Ed Sheeran.

Production Updates

Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures on a reported ₹200–350 crore budget, King is one of India’s most expensive action films to date.

Filming began in May 2025 in Mumbai (including action sequences at Mehboob Studios and Golden Tobacco Factory), followed by a schedule in Warsaw, Poland, in September.

Shooting is expected to wrap by the end of 2025, despite a brief halt in July due to SRK’s minor muscular injury.

The film is slated for a 2026 theatrical release, likely in the second half of the year.

Fans are already calling it SRK’s biggest action spectacle yet, a perfect blend of style, emotion, and mass entertainment.

With the Badshah in complete form, King is definitely “cooking” something legendary! 🔥

Stay tuned for official posters, trailers, and more updates.
