Pakistan Train Hijack Ends As Military Rescues 190 Hostages

The Pakistan security forces have successfully ended the Jaffar Express hijack in Balochistan, killing all militants involved and rescuing 190 hostages, according to reports on Wednesday.

The operation, which lasted over a day, was launched after Baloch militants hijacked the train carrying 500 passengers by using explosives to derail it.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani military’s swift response resulted in the elimination of all insurgents.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the ISPR Director General, confirmed that the operation, launched on Tuesday, has been completed. However, the military suffered 28 casualties, as per AFP reports.

Shehbaz Sharif Reacts to the Attack

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his first reaction to the train hijack, expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives while emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism.

“Dozens of terrorists have been sent to hell,” Sharif stated on X (formerly Twitter). “The entire nation is deeply shocked by this dastardly act and saddened by the loss of innocent lives—such cowardly acts will not shake Pakistan’s resolve for peace.”

He also conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Details of the Hijack

The train hijacking took place in the Bolan district of Balochistan, a region known for ongoing insurgency movements.

Reports indicate that 70-80 Baloch militants were involved in the attack.

Pakistani officials believe the perpetrators aimed to use civilians as human shields, escalating tensions in an already volatile province.

With the operation concluded security measures in Balochistan remain heightened as Pakistan continues to grapple with separatist insurgencies and security challenges along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
