Trump Pushes Reciprocal Tariffs Ahead of Modi Meeting

Washington, D.C. – Just hours before he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to introduce reciprocal tariffs.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared, “Three great weeks, perhaps the best-ever, but today is the big one: Reciprocal tariffs. Make America Great Again.”

However, he provided no specifics about the targeted countries or industries.

Since his second term began on January 20, Trump has aggressively implemented tariffs, heightening global trade tensions.

His administration has already imposed tariffs on Chinese goods (10%), steel and aluminium imports (effective March 12), and a 30-day tariff hold on Canada and Mexico.

Analysts fear these measures could further destabilize financial markets and increase inflation in the U.S.

Modi arrived in the U.S. today and will meet Trump at 4 p.m. (1900 GMT) at the White House, followed by a joint press conference.

The visit comes after India slashed tariffs on high-end motorcycles and accepted a U.S. military flight carrying illegal migrants as part of Trump’s immigration policies.

Modi is also set to meet tech billionaire Elon Musk, who plays a key role in Trump’s government efficiency program.

As tensions rise over tariffs and trade policies, all eyes are on the Modi-Trump meeting, which could shape the future of U.S.-India economic relations.
